I am writing two versions here. First non-imaginitive version, which I am
sure we will see in 10 years. And second imaginative version, which I can
not be sure of seeing in 10 years.
Non-Imaginative Version:
-----------------------
* Almost all internet access will be wireless. No need to hook up any
cable/phone line to get connected
* Almost all internet communication will be done using fiber optics cables
and satellites, no more copper wire
* More and more household devices will be connected to Internet. So, you
can switch on the AC 10 minutes prior to reaching home from your mobile or
start the microwave own or order the 'Roomba' to clean the floor while you
are not home etc. etc.
* There will be almost nil requirement for software installation in your
computer as many of regular software such as spreadsheet, word processor
etc will be available online to use from Browser.
* Online shopping will beat the off-line shopping in retail products
* Rules and regulation will be developed for corporate employees working
from home through internet and whole new generation of working from home
class will come into existence. New team management and project management
rules will come into picture as team will not present in one place
physically.
* For country like India, e-goevernance will become reality
Imaginative Version:
-------------------
* [This one is very high tech :)] Internet will have virtual malls/night
club/study center. So, people can enter there using their virtual reality
devices and act as like they do in real world. A wall between real world
and virtual world will be removed. Almost everyone will be living in cyber
space.
* Internet Citizen database will be created with thumb impression. So, you
will not require to type userid and password in any website. You will just
require 'Finger Reader' attached to your computer. Put a thumb and you are
logged in. No need to write down user id and password for hundreds of
sites in your diary.
* Google will rule. All terms and conditions related to Internet will be
develop, implement and maintain by Google.
* Virtual meeting room will be created. Suppose company in India has just
acquired company in Germany, to sign the agreement letter executive need
not to fly to Germany. When in virtual room, he/she sign the document a
robo hand in Germany will sign the same on his behalf. Security model will
be required to make robo hand hacker proof :) [Too far fetched??]
* A girl in China, will marry a boy in America through Internet without
meeting each other. Marriage database will have their DNA, blood group,
semens data etc in its database. So, when they have sex, simulator machine
will produce semens and put inside girl's vagina. Physical presence will
not be necessary. (Again far fetched??)
* Imagination Club will have a separate website. Will support HTML emails.
Will have full searchable archives. And yes, will have around 20,000,000
intelligent participant from earth, 60,000 from Mars and another 60,000
from all other part of MilkyWay Galaxy :)
Smile ! Cheer UP ! ENJOY !
Regards,
MD

[Imagination Club] Challenge: where is the Internet going?
Where do you think the Internet will go in the next ten
years in terms of new services, technologies, social
impact, etc?
Remember, stretch your imagination and don't be afraid to
share radical ideas with us. There is no penalty for being
wrong - but lots of prestige in the imagination club for
being imaginative!
