My Arabic Story myarabicstory at yahoo.ca

Dear Jeff, and all,

My name is Randah, I work as a community developer in Montreal, Canada.
I am like an octopus getting involved with so many things and have learned a lot from my neworks. I also give workshops on life changing skills occasionally. but my most beloved accomplishment is starting a storytelling project (www.myarabicstory.org) that has grown beyond my expectations.

I am moderating a yahoo group about My Arabic Story and have faced the exact same problem. many members but no comments, so I decided to do what I do best, make up something.

I told the group that we are going to create a collective story, based in an Arabic environment (note that only 40% of the members are of Arab descendents, rest are from all over, but who love stories and cultures).

I started a paragraphe of a story about a man named Haidar, son of a fisherman who lives next to the euphrates river in Iraq.

next, I found that every member started sending a line or two, a paragraphe or two to complete the story. at one point, two people sent out different responses to the same line, and we found ourselves with two versions of the story..... exciting!

we continued with both versions, one of the members is a graphic designer and has volunteered his time (not before December) to illustrate our little story. another member knows a thing or two about printing books, and that will be done too soon. (Insha Allah - God willing).

after this event, people started asking for ideas on how to organize events, another member wanted to start My Arabic Story in Vancouver, and some are simply providing us with facts and stories... this whole drama thing has just happened less than a month ago.

I don't know how you can use this idea in this place, but I do like practical things. I enjoy being imaginative (as in fantasy) every now and then, but when I get practical imagination and use some of your ideas in my life, I'm more than eager to open this email first thing in the morning.

and a special thanks to Jeff, I've used a lot from your ideas given in the report 103 and they have inspired me to go wild sometimes :) Mr. Dracula.

cheers to all!

Randah Taher
