David,
Suggestion. Become familiar with Tom Peters' website. Visit often.
www.tompeters.com If you're not familiar with him, he wrote In Search of
Excellence, Thriving on Chaos, and the Brand You series, to name a few.
David's suggestions are solid, and accurate. Tom's wisdom will give you
context. Beyond that, you may want to consider a visual thinking
communication tool to help snazzy up your ideas.
I'd be pleased to discuss or correspond with you on more specifics if you
like.
Best wishes...

My perception is that it's almost the same problem that sales people have
convincing people to buy their products.
1) Make sure the idea solves a real problem or achieves a real goal
2) Make sure that the problem/goal is something that the person you're
convincing actually *wants* to solve
3) Create a compelling vision of what life will be like once the idea
is implemented
4) Provide them with a path to follow to get them from current
situation through to a beneficial future result
There are mountains of books on sales methodologies which can be
"repurposed" for exactly this kind of activity. Using the wisdom and
research from a parallel domain is much easier than inventing it all on your
own. ;)
Would be interested in other people's opinions too...
Rgds,
David

Challenge: How might an employee with a great idea sell
that idea upstream to her managers?
This is a problem faced by many creative employees -
probably even people like you. So, I'd like you to think of
creative ways that you could sell a great idea to your
managers.
