Apologies for the very short notice. Jo S ------------------------------------------------------------- Hi everyone, You probably know that the Home Office plans to make ID cards available to young people living in London from the 8th February, that's this coming Monday. We've just had word that Identity Minister, Meg Hillier will be launching the roll out with a media event at the passport office in Victoria, obviously, No2ID needs to have a presence on the day to let everyone know that we oppose the introduction of the cards to Londoners. What we'd like to do is hold the traditional No2ID protest with No2ID banners, large ID cards, leaflets etc and with half a dozen people dressed in the NO2ID protest outfit (a white decorator's suit and this facemask: http://www.no2id.net/downloads/speakUpMask.pdf). We'll provide all the necessary stuff, all you need to bring is yourself! The one problem we have is not knowing what time the Home Office event will be. Based on previous occurrences we expect it to be around 11am, we will let everyone know as soon as we can what time it will be, but for now we have to go with our best estimate and ask you to arrive just before 11am. If you, your friends, or anyone you know would be able to come down to the passport office and help out please let me know on local.groups@no2id.net or message me here (note from me: Message Matty on Facebook). When you get in touch please give me your phone number so I can get in touch if there is a change of time. Please come and lend your presence to our protest, we need to let the Home Office know that we don't accept their slow removal of our liberty. Thanks, Matty Mitford If you want to be kept up to date via http://www.no2id.net/getInvolved/. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... We should be done by 9:00am. Thanks to everyone who's already got in touch with Matty to let us know you're coming along. As the event is now earlier, maybe you could make it along (even just for a short while) on your way to work? If you can, please e-mail local.groups@no2id.net or call Matty on 07500 836 461. We'll be asssembling on Belgrave Road, on the corner just outside the passport office - map here: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=SW1V+1PN See you tomorrow if you can make it! Phil Booth, NO2ID's National Coordinator sent out a message asking supporters to get involved in choosing the 5 issues they would concentrate on to renew democracy in this country. There is still time to vote and it looks like stopping ID cards and the database state will be in the final list. At our last meeting on Thursday we were joined by Sam Wilson, the South East regional coordinator of the campaign. I thought I should pass on details of a Power2010 meeting which will be held in Oxford on this Saturday (13 Feb). Its going to be at the East Oxford Community Centre at 4pm and the director of POWER2010 Pam Giddy will be on hand to talk about the campaign too. So if you are interested in getting involved, I suggest you go along, Chris From c at 24.org.uk Fri Feb 19 18:19:12 2010 From: c at 24.org.uk (Chris Rimmer) Date: Fri Feb 19 18:19:17 2010 Subject: [No2id Oxford] Next stall and meeting Message-ID: <4B7ED620.2040204@24.org.uk> I've been slow off the mark with this announcement, plus February is a short month, so apologies. Our stall will be next Saturday (27 Feb). As usual, we'll meet up by St Michael's Tower on Cornmarket St at 11am and be there for a couple of hours talking to people and gathering signatures. Following on from this we'll be meeting up for our regular pub meeting at the Mitre on the High Street on Thursday 4 March from 8pm. As mentioned previously, I'm going to be standing down as chair of the group since I'm going to be out of the country for most of the summer. Jim Wise and Sarah Fish are going to step into the breach to run the group jointly. We'll be phasing in this change over the next few months. Chris
